Sacramento Kings Select Jason Thompson PF From Rider University

Boy I was pretty excited last night. And then WAM. A huge surprise by the kings. Jason Thompson? Who is this guy?
Doing the simple research I discovered a few things. He was a 20 and 10 guy for the last two years. Top that off with a couple of blocks and assists plus over 50% shooting. Why was this guy not higher on peoples boards? Well he went to a less known school - Rider.
Ok so Thompson is the first player ever to be drafted out of Rider. I can see the concern of other teams. There wasn't a lot of big game experience. But here is the thing. A good player should dominate and have big numbers against lesser opponents. That is exactly what he did. Some have said that he was impressive in work outs and must really have caught Petrie's eye.
What do the Kings get out of this? The Kings certainly picked for need. He will fit in nicely. With Hawes from last year and Martin the Kings have a good young nucleus.
